The National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Debo Ologunagba, has rejected assertions that the opposition party is defunct, asserting that critics only highlight its significance by continuously discussing it.
Ologunagba made these comments during an interview on Channels TV on Thursday.
He pointed out that those promoting the narrative of the PDP’s decline are the same individuals who cannot refrain from following the party’s activities.
“If the PDP is indeed dead as they assert, why are they so fixated on us? Why do they mention us daily? It simply indicates that the PDP continues to be the primary party to contend with,” he remarked.
He emphasized that the PDP should not be labeled as a “failed party” merely because it has lost elections in the past.
“Failure? Failure of what? The PDP is not a failed organization. What we are witnessing are defections largely driven by intimidation and harassment from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC),” he explained.
“What is occurring is intimidation and coercion by the APC to entice members away,” he added.
When questioned about the possibility of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, becoming the party’s presidential candidate, Ologunagba acknowledged Makinde's qualifications but stated that the PDP would present its strongest candidate for 2027.
“Is he qualified? Yes. However, the PDP will nominate its best candidate, someone who can defeat the APC in the 2027 elections,” he affirmed.
He reiterated that the PDP is stable and focused on rebuilding, emphasizing that the party is already preparing for its special convention in Ibadan.
