PDP not about Atiku, we’ve moved on without him before now – Abba Moro

Senator Abba Moro has insisted that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is not about former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, or any other person.

He said the party is willing and fully ready to move on without Atiku and anyone else who wishes to leave, insisting that the PDP is about its members.

Abba Moro, who was a guest on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, said he knew for sure that Atiku would leave the main opposition party even before it happened, adding that there was nothing anyone could do about it.

Atiku Abubakar announced his resignation from the PDP last week, joining the likes of former Senate President David Mark, who had earlier left the party for the newly adopted coalition party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

“I’ve said this before, and I keep saying that the party, PDP, is not about one person. It’s not about two persons. The party is about members of the party. And as people walk out, people walk in too,” the PDP chieftain said.

“And so, if people who voluntarily join the party voluntarily decide to leave, there is nothing you can do about it. The reality on ground is that they have left.

“And so it is left for those of us who want to remain with the party, who are remaining with the party, to pick up the pieces and move on.

“Now, for quite some time, quite frankly, for those of us in the PDP, we knew quite alright that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar was on his way out of the party. This is because for quite some time now, he has not been attending the activities of the PDP.

“I can tell you this, any PDP member who has been very active in attending functions of the PDP, especially NEC, the BoT, the caucus, and the rest of them, will tell you that for some months now he has been away from the party.”
