Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the former Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Political Affairs, has stated that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is beyond repair.

This assertion was made during a Thursday interview on Arise Television, which was observed by DAILY POST.

He addressed the current political landscape in Nigeria in anticipation of the upcoming 2027 general elections.

“The PDP is losing its way. I believe it is beyond saving, and I do not think anyone can revive it. The PDP is not the sole party capable of providing a credible opposition to the APC; there are also the ADC and other parties,” he remarked.

“At times, we tend to over-criticize the government and overlook the damage the PDP, as the opposition, has inflicted upon itself. The reality is that the PDP has been in decline for a considerable time.”

“These politicians held power for an extended period, and it turns out they lacked experience in being in the opposition. These are seasoned politicians who once governed the country, and suddenly, after losing power, they seem to have lost their way.”

“Many people hold Tinubu accountable. I share that sentiment, as there are clear areas where he has erred. He appears to be accumulating excessive power and surrounding himself with too many politicians. However, that doesn’t necessarily equate to actual power.”

“But what has the PDP done to itself? The PDP has consistently engaged in self-sabotage. It is astonishing that they began as a strong party, featuring accomplished politicians who had served their country well. Unfortunately, the party has deteriorated to its current state.”

“They allowed their party to fracture. They could not find a way to retain what remains. This is not the first instance where the PDP has surrendered a substantial portion of itself to the opposition. This occurred in 2015, and it is happening again,” he concluded.
