PAUL SCHOLES has admitted the “jury’s still out” on Senne Lammens as Manchester United close in on an unwanted Premier League record.

The Belgian goalkeeper has established himself as ’s No1 since completing an £18.1million move from Royal Antwerp in 2025.

But legend Scholes is yet to be fully convinced that Lammens, 24, can be the long-term answer between the sticks.

Speaking on The Good, The Bad and The Football podcast, Scholes said: “What team have you seen win the Premier League without a top-class goalkeeper?”

He added: “Lammens might be that; I don’t know. I think the jury’s probably still out on that.”

Scholes believes building a title-winning side must start with having an elite stopper behind the defence.

He said: “You need a top-class goalkeeper.

“You think of Liverpool’s team with Alisson, City’s teams with… Raya at , Man United with and Edwin van der Sar.

“They’ve all got brilliant, brilliant goalkeepers. You start from the back, of course you do.”

Scholes added: “Whether Michael has just got to be patient and wait for that, I don’t know.”

And the warning comes with Michael Carrick’s United enduring a difficult start to the Premier League campaign, taking just four points from their opening four matches.

Defeat against in their .

It would be worse than the five points collected from his opening five in 2014-15, currently United’s poorest Premier League start at that stage.
