She tried to defend herself by insisting that she did not know that it was against the rules.

“There’s no way he could have hit that shot without that.”

The other players did not press the issue but fans called her out on social media for cheating.
The has insisted that some even sent her death threats during the fallout from the incident.
Spiranac has not let the ordeal stop her from competing at this year’s $4million (£2.97m) event.
The prize money for the event has quadrupled from its $1m (£740,000) pot from last year.

The date and location for the tournament are yet to be revealed but will feature 48 players.
Spiranac told her followers during the fallout from the she had considered getting a restraining order.
She said: “I am painfully embarrassed that I did not know this rule, but I would never intentionally cheat.
“The last week and a half has been probably the worst hate I’ve ever received in the ten years of me doing this.

“I’m talking tens of thousands of death threats, people telling me to kill myself, the most vile, horrendous stuff you could ever say to an individual.
“That’s been in my DMs to the point where we were discussing me having to potentially get a restraining order.
“I mean, it’s serious stuff. It’s not easy, and it hasn’t been easy.”
The amount of abuse she received even led her to temporarily step away from social media.
