The Osun State Government has approved the participation of Osun Babes, the state's women's football team, in the Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL) for the 2025/2026 season.

This announcement was made in a statement released by Kehinde Johnson, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Ademola Adeleke on Football Matters, on Friday in Osogbo.

Johnson highlighted that this decision is part of the state government's renewed efforts to promote sports development and increase women's involvement in competitive football.

He stated that the approval signifies the administration's ongoing support for the progress of women’s sports throughout Osun State.

“The Osun State Government has granted permission for Osun Babes to participate in the Nigeria Women Premier League for the 2025/2026 season,” Johnson remarked.

“This approval illustrates the government's continuous commitment to fostering sports excellence and empowering female athletes to compete at both national and international levels,” he added.

Johnson elaborated that this initiative is part of the state's strategic vision to provide a platform for young female footballers to hone their skills and represent the state with pride.

He also praised Governor Ademola Adeleke and Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi for their steadfast support of sports initiatives within the state.

“We are truly grateful to His Excellency, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, and His Excellency, Prince Kola Adewusi, for their unwavering commitment to the advancement of sports in Osun State,” he stated.

Johnson recognized the contributions of the Commissioner for Sports in ensuring that the state's football programs remain vibrant and competitive.

He expressed confidence that Osun Babes would excel in the upcoming season and bring pride to the state through their dedication and teamwork.

Beginning this December, Osun Babes, one of Nigeria's prominent female football teams, are anticipated to start their preparations for the 2025/2026 Nigeria Women Premier League season.
