The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has postponed its 2026 governorship primary due to unresolved internal disputes within the party’s national leadership.
DAILY POST learned that the primary was initially scheduled for Tuesday, December 2, 2025.
In a statement delivered in Osogbo by its state chairman, Sunday Bisi, the party announced this decision, stating that Governor Ademola Adeleke had met all procedural requirements as outlined in the PDP nomination timetable.
Bisi noted that the Governor purchased and submitted his expression of interest and nomination forms between October 13 and 25, 2025.
He further mentioned that the Governor appeared before the Screening Committee on October 30, 2025, where he was approved and issued a Certificate of Clearance.
However, he revealed that “internal conflicts at the national level escalated shortly after the screening process, resulting in the suspension of key officials responsible for overseeing congresses and primaries.
“The leadership crisis, which has now become the focus of multiple court cases nationwide, hindered the conduct of ward and local government congresses scheduled for November 24 and 29, 2025, during which delegates for the primaries were to be elected.
“In light of these developments, it has become unavoidable that the PDP governorship primaries can no longer proceed as planned.”
The party chairman confirmed that Governor Adeleke remains the only aspirant who has purchased, submitted, and been screened in accordance with the official timetable.
Nonetheless, the ongoing national leadership dispute has raised concerns that the Governor may withdraw from pursuing the party’s nomination unless a resolution acknowledged by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is achieved within the electoral timeframe.
The party clarified that the responsibility for conducting primaries lies solely with the PDP National Secretariat, but emphasized the importance of keeping members and the public informed.
Bisi assured that efforts are underway to secure a lawful and timely resolution to the crisis.
He also reiterated the party’s commitment to adhering to electoral guidelines and ensuring transparency in all processes.
