Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North, has claimed that Governor Alex Otti would not have been declared the Governor of Abia State in 2023 without his (Kalu's) intervention.

In a statement released by his media office on Tuesday, signed by George Maduka, the senator reaffirmed his team's commitment to securing victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State by 2027.

He stated that the ruling party does not require Governor Alex Otti's support to win elections in the state, emphasizing that the APC remains united and strong in Abia.

The statement challenged Governor Otti to deny that he "personally visited Senator Kalu's residence in Igbere late at night on the eve of the election."

It was asserted that notable figures involved in the Labour Party's 2023 campaign, including Chief Umeh Kalu, who acted as the party's coordinator in Abia State, cannot refute having discussions with Senator Kalu regarding the gubernatorial election. The statement questioned the rationale behind seeking such intervention if claims of political insignificance were indeed accurate.

"If he was not significant, why was his residence in Igbere visited on the night before the election?" the statement asked.

This statement came after Governor Otti's decision to support the Labour Party (LP) candidate for Abia North in an effort to defeat Orji Uzor Kalu in 2027.

Otti had declared in a statement issued on Monday by his media aide, Ferdinand Ekeoma, that the LP will remove Kalu from office in 2027.
