Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to finalizing the 20-kilometre Akute-Ijoko Road in the Ifo Local Government Area, assuring residents that the long-neglected project will soon be completed.
The governor provided this reassurance on Friday while inspecting the ongoing work on the initial phase of the 9.7-kilometre section of the road, shortly after inaugurating the newly completed Akute-Ajuwon-Alagbole Road, also located in Ifo Local Government.
Abiodun clarified that the Akute-Ijoko project is being carried out in phases according to a well-structured implementation plan, emphasizing that his administration has a definitive blueprint for enhancing the corridor.
“This road spans nearly 20 kilometres and will feature a dual carriageway, equating to 40 kilometres with complete drainage systems. By God’s grace, we will finalize this road,” he stated.
He reflected on the fact that the route had endured years of neglect, expressing regret that prior efforts to repair it were poorly managed and ultimately exacerbated the issues.
“What you see here was a neglected road. In fact, it might have been better left as it was. A prior administration attempted some work here, but it only made matters significantly worse. Government cannot operate effectively without coordination. You must have a strategy and establish priorities,” the governor remarked.
The Governor highlighted that the project's implementation strategy aligns with the aspirations of the residents, adding that public consultation remains fundamental to his administration’s governance approach.
Abiodun noted that witnessing the enthusiasm of the community during his inspection was a reassuring indication that the project is progressing as planned.
“This is a vital connector road between Ogun West and Ogun Central, linking Sango-Ota, which borders Lagos, to Ifo II through Ifo I,” he explained.
The governor disclosed that the project has been divided into two phases, with the first phase extending just beyond the Agbado Station axis toward the Sango-Lanbe-Ijoko Road corridor.
