The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, stated that after three years, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi is still harboring bitterness.

Onanuga made these remarks in a statement on Wednesday in response to Obi’s recent defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

He pointed out that Obi continues to assert that he was robbed of victory, despite empirical analyses of the election indicating that he could not have won and was fortunate to even place third, primarily due to the polling figures he received in his South East region.

The president’s spokesperson also criticized Obi’s speech during his defection, suggesting that such posturing should be viewed skeptically, especially from a politician who had a dismal record in a small state like Anambra, which he governed for eight years.

According to Onanuga, no leader can advance a country by merely copying and pasting models from other nations, emphasizing that countries require original thinkers, not imitators.

“Nearly three years after the 2023 election, Obi, the peripatetic politician who has transitioned from APGA to PDP to Labour and now ADC, still sounds resentful about finishing third.

“During his event, Obi's bitterness was apparent. What concerned me most were his references to books, professors, and other nations to support his belief that he has learned from the masters and that Nigeria should be entrusted to him because he claims to possess the secrets of national development.

“However, Obi’s reasoning is flawed. Nations are not identical, and what succeeded in Indonesia or the USA may not necessarily be applicable in Nigeria.

“This is precisely what President Bola Tinubu has been implementing since May 29, 2023, a fact that Obi is too consumed by animosity and narrow-mindedness to recognize,” he stated.
