The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has responded to the disturbances that occurred during the matchday five encounter between Ibom Angels and Bayelsa Queens.
According to DAILY POST, fans of Ibom Angels unlawfully stormed the pitch at the end of the match, physically assaulting players and officials of Bayelsa Queens at the Uyo Township Stadium on Wednesday.
The NWFL has imposed a fine of N2.5 million on Ibom Angels and has banned their supporters from attending the next three home matches.
The league’s Chief Operating Officer, Modupe Shabi, stated that this decisive action highlights the league’s commitment to upholding discipline and ensuring the safety of all participants.
“The safety of players, officials, and match personnel is non-negotiable,” Shabi remarked following the decision regarding the incident.
“What transpired in Uyo constitutes a serious violation of our regulations and the principles of the NWFL. We will impose stricter penalties on any club whose supporters engage in violence or behavior that could tarnish the reputation of the league.”
