The FA stated: “Cristian Romero has been penalized concerning the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool on Saturday, 20 December 2025.
“It was alleged that he acted improperly around the 93rd minute by failing to exit the field promptly and/or behaving in a confrontational and/or aggressive manner towards the referee.
“The defender subsequently admitted the charge, and an independent Regulatory Commission has now imposed a one-match suspension and a £50,000 fine following a hearing.
“The written reasons for these sanctions from the Regulatory Commission will be published in due course.”
Tottenham has not and will not appeal the decision.
This follows Wednesday’s 3-2 defeat at Bournemouth.
