The chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Downstream Petroleum, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, has urged northerners to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, saying it would be the “right thing” to do.
According to him, “Voting for President Tinubu again by the North is a fulfilment of what is just, fair and honest, just like what the South did to us through late President Muhammadu Buhari; therefore, I expect an overwhelming number of votes for Tinubu in 2027.”
Speaking in a statement he signed and issued to journalists in Kano on Wednesday, Doguwa, who is also chairman of the Northern Caucus in the House of Representatives, said the North has no reason not to back Tinubu again.
“We have seen how the southern part of Nigeria played a significant role in ensuring that late President Buhari completed his eight-year tenure in office, so it is an obligation for us to reciprocate that gesture to Tinubu,” he said.
He also appealed to his Tudun Wada/Doguwa constituents who left the All Progressives Congress (APC) to reconsider their decision and return to the party, assuring them of renewed development.
“I don’t hold grudges against anybody in my federal constituency; I see everyone as a family member. I also expect that people see me as such, so we should come together and work for the good of our areas rather than fighting unnecessarily,” Doguwa added.
He thanked Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for what he described as his peaceful and progressive leadership and called for unity among APC members and defectors.
“Right now, every party member is my personal thing, and I’m proud of him, and all of us belong to Governor Yusuf and the party chairman, Umar Haruna Doguwa, so all of us should work for the unity and progress of the party and state,” he said.
