Nigeria's police have brought charges against Nnamdi Kanu’s attorney, Aloy Ejimakor, his brother Prince Emmanuel Kanu, and ten others following the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest in Abuja on Monday.
The court documents regarding this matter were shared by the former National Chairman of the Human Rights Commission of Nigeria (HRCN), Prof Chidi Odinkalu, via X on Tuesday.
The police are accusing them of inciting public disturbance and violating public peace in defiance of a court order.
According to the document reviewed by DAILY POST, the suspects obstructed the freedom of movement for other citizens, disrupted the flow of traffic while chanting war songs, and demanded the release of Nnamdi Kanu.
DAILY POST reported that Benjamin Hundeyin, the Force Public Relations Officer, stated during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today program on Monday that Ejimakor and Kanu’s brother, along with others, would face charges on Tuesday.
Hundeyin further mentioned that those apprehended during the protest would be brought before the court following an investigation.
He stated: “We arrested Nnamdi Kanu’s brother and his lawyer because they insisted on accessing restricted areas. Additionally, six others were also arrested around TRANSCORP for the same reason. In total, eight individuals were apprehended.
“They are currently at the state CID, and once we complete our investigation, we will proceed as stated in our announcement that anyone who violated that court order would be arrested, thoroughly investigated, and prosecuted.
“Once we finalize that, which we expect to do tonight, they will be prosecuted immediately; within 24 hours, they will appear in court.”
