A NIGERIAN student who assaulted a 17-year-old girl multiple times after enticing her into his apartment and confining her in the bathroom has been sentenced to prison.

Chiemka Okoronta, 29, was traveling on a bus with his victim in March when the journey ended prematurely, leading both of them to be instructed to take a taxi home.

With her phone battery dead, the young victim found herself stranded.

She was unable to call a taxi or reach out to friends or family.

Okoronta then suggested they share a taxi ride.

She consented and handed Okoronta £4.90 for her portion of the fare.

Once inside the taxi, Okoronta made inappropriate gestures towards her, as reported.

It was later revealed that he had deceived the girl by ordering the taxi to his residence instead of her intended destination.

Prosecutor Graham O’Sullivan stated: “She thought the taxi was headed to the bus station.

“However, the defendant had arranged for the taxi to take them to his home address.”

He continued: “When the taxi arrived, [she] exited and asked the defendant where the bus station was.

“He began gesturing and told her that if she went inside the flat, others would assist her.

“Under the guise of needing to use the restroom, the defendant convinced [the victim] to come upstairs.

“He then locked her in a bathroom and assaulted her.”

The teenage victim eventually managed to escape the apartment and was captured on CCTV fleeing before receiving help from bystanders.

Okoronta was found guilty of three counts of rape and of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent.

The teenage girl stated in court: “This incident has completely altered my life.

“I experience flashbacks of what occurred, and I suffer from nightmares.”

She added: “One moment I feel okay, and the next it all resurfaces, making me upset, frustrated, and angry about what has happened.”

Detective Constable Sue Sutcliffe remarked: “Okoronta exploited his victim and lured her to his home, compelling her to engage in sexual acts.

“I want to commend the victim for her incredible courage in coming forward immediately to report this horrific crime.

“Her prompt actions led to a swift investigation.”

Okoronta received a 10-year prison sentence, with an additional three-year extended license period.

Bradford Crown Court also noted that he would be deported back to Nigeria following his release.
