The Commissioner of Police in Niger State, Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, has advised residents of interior communities around Kainji Lake in Borgu and Agwara Local Government Areas to relocate to safer areas ahead of the Eid el-Fitr celebration.
Elleman, who spoke in Minna, said the move follows the approval of Governor Umar Bago on the recommendation of security agencies in the state.
He explained that the relocation would allow the police to concentrate their limited manpower in specific locations to ensure effective policing and the protection of the lives and property of residents.
The commissioner noted that the state government has promised to provide social amenities in the designated areas to ensure a comfortable stay for the affected residents before they return to their ancestral homes.
He expressed optimism that the planned recruitment of 50,000 additional police officers nationwide would help address manpower shortages and improve security operations.
Elleman also said ongoing recruitment exercises in the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Army would within the next two to three years, strengthen personnel capacity and enhance service delivery across the country.
