Daniel Atori, the media aide to the Bishop of Kontagora Diocese and the proprietor of Most Rev. Bulus Yohanna's school, stated that he cannot definitively confirm that the schoolchildren have been rescued.
In an interview with Arise Television, which was monitored by DAILY POST on Monday, Atori mentioned that they have not yet received the children or teachers.
He noted that officials from the Federal Government have claimed that the children have been rescued, emphasizing that they are relying on that information.
“I cannot definitively say that they have all been rescued, but we are hopeful that more will be released,” he said.
“We have not yet received these children and teachers, but Federal Government officials assert that they have all been rescued, so we are taking their word for it.
“Therefore, the Federal Government possesses all the necessary information they require. From the beginning, as we reported, we had 315 individuals, including children and their teachers. Shortly after, we reported that 50 of them escaped, leaving us with 265.”
“Based on the figures we provided, as of the time we conducted our headcount and verification, we attempted to reach out to parents to help us re-identify those still missing.”
“Then, about two weeks ago, we had 100 of them rescued and returned to their parents.”
“At that point, we had 165 remaining. We are still continuing our verification process, conducting headcounts, and expecting more to be released,” he concluded.
