Sir Gino headed the market for the day one feature won this year by Lossiemouth before pulling up on Cheltenham’s Trials Day.

He fractured his pelvis under Nico de Boinville on that occasion and was .

While the recovery on that front appears to be going well – it’s hoped the battle against the infection is too.

The life-threatening condition has come for the Joe and Marie Donnelly-owned hurdler before and he fought it off.

Henderson said Sir Gino is not out of the woods yet but remains in the best possible care.

He told the Racing Post : “Sir Gino is still in hospital and is taking his time.

“It’s a long time since Trials day when he went wrong.

“It’s not the pelvis, it’s just the infection he had last year.

“It took three months then and we got him back.

“You pray we can do it again.”

Henderson, who won the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle with Old Park Star, is on the hunt for his next Champion Hurdle hopeful.

At the start of the season he looked loaded with Sir Gino and Constitution Hill.

But the former may never see a racecourse again and the latter won’t ever jump a hurdle again .

While Old Park Star and Act Of Innocence, who finished second in the Turners, are both set to go chasing.

Henderson does have two exciting recruits who have benefitted from the junior hurdle races.

Both Feel Gut, who is owned by the Donnellys, and the exciting Roccontier, who bolted in by 18 lengths at Market Rasen on Sunday, will remain novices for next season.
