The music icon disclosed that her first name, Onika, is the Trinidadian variation of the Igbo name Onyekachi.

Minaj was responding to a post from a fan who praised her recent appearance at the United Nations, where she spoke out against jihadist violence targeting Christians in Nigeria. The fan asserted that Minaj’s first name, Onika, which translates to “Who is greater than God,” signifies that she was meant for greatness, including advocating against injustice.

Sharing an image that elaborated on the meaning and variations of Minaj’s first name via X, the fan wrote, “The name Onika signifies ‘a sustained belief in a supreme being who possesses ultimate authority and exceeds all others in greatness.’
