Christmas dinner can be quite a hassle and can also significantly impact your budget, which may already be stretched during the festive season.

One influencer has been testing ready meal Christmas dinners and was pleasantly surprised by Marks & Spencer’s £6.50 option.

Stuart, better known as ‘Grumpy Northern Foodie’ to his 5.3 million followers, gave a detailed review of the Meal For One Roast designed for a single serving.

Upon unboxing, he was immediately impressed by the portion size: “The plate is fuller with this one than the meal that cost £40 for four people.”

He placed the potatoes, pigs in blankets, and Yorkshire pudding on a baking tray.

The gravy-covered turkey was placed in a separate dish and heated in the oven.

The serving of vegetables was microwaved, but Stuart found the preparation process for the ready meal somewhat puzzling.

“Ready in 30 minutes, but it’s a bit of a hassle to cook since you have to prepare everything separately,” he noted.

While taste-testing each component of the festive meal, he remarked: “The roast potatoes came out really well; they’re a bit small, but still enjoyable.”

“The Yorkshire pudding is excellent. The vegetables are just basic, but there’s nothing significantly wrong with them.”

“The stuffing is nice, but there is only a tiny amount,” he added.

Of course, the centerpiece of Christmas dinner is the turkey, and Stuart was not particularly impressed with M&S’s version.

“Look, it’s a ready meal. You’re not going to get the best turkey in the world,” he commented.

“Unfortunately, it’s a bit lackluster. I also think it could use more gravy; that would be nice.”

He noted that for those on a budget this year, the meal could be a good option.

“Getting something like this for £6.50, which is easy to cook, could be perfect for you.”

“Overall, most of the items included are quite good. The gravy is really nice,” he added.

Stuart, who has 15 years of experience in the food industry, rated the ready meal.

He said: “From a review perspective, the turkey isn’t great, and I think they could include more stuffing, perhaps an extra potato.”

“I’ve had far worse ready meals. I’m going to give it a 6 out of 10.”

His followers had mixed opinions about the M&S ready meal and flocked to the comments section to express their views.

One follower was completely baffled by the price, commenting: “Honestly, the world has gone mad. £6.50 for a ready meal – and you have to cook all the components separately! Crazy.”

Another, unimpressed by the meal's presentation, wrote: “The saddest Christmas dinner on the planet.”

“Not enough food there for me,” a third user lamented.

However, not everyone was so critical of the product.

“It’s £6.50, so a reasonable option,” one user commented.

“I had this the other night and enjoyed it. It’s good for those dining alone or for people who don’t have much time,” another added.

Another user seemed pleased with the turkey dish, stating: “My Christmas lunch is sorted!”

A fourth agreed: “To be fair, I bought one just like this when I had Covid a few years back and was alone at Christmas; it provided me with a festive meal without much effort.”
