A MAJOR motorway has shut in one direction after a crash left firefighters battling a blaze.
The M3 in is closed westbound between J6 (Black Dam Interchange, Basingstoke) and J7 (Dummer).
National Highways said a vehicle collision vehicle fire was reported at around 4pm.
All emergency services are working at the scene with Hampshire fire service leading the response at this stage, said National Highways.
Diversions are also currently in place, with westbound drivers urged to follow the triangle symbol on road signs.
Traffic Officers are on scene and assisting with strategic closures on the approach.
National Highways urged motorists to plan ahead with their journeys.
Drivers have been warned to expect longer travel times and delays on the road.
Motorists heading westbound have already seen a slow crawl on their journeys after the crash.
Diversion Routes
Road users travelling westbound are advised to follow the solid triangle symbol:
- Exit the M3 at J6, take the 2nd exit on to the spur to Black Dam Roundabout
- Take the 1st exit and join the A30 (Ringway South)
- At the roundabout with Winchester Road, take the 1st exit on to Winchester Road (A30)
- Follow the A30 to the M3 J7 interchange, take the 3rd exit and rejoin the A30 westbound
