MOTHERLAND’S Anna Maxwell Martin has made a rare admission about “burnout and crying” as she detailed her grief after her husband’s death.

Anna’s late husband, Notting Hill filmmaker Roger Michell – on the same day he wrapped the sound mix on his final project: Elizabeth: A Portrait in Parts.

A report revealed the cause of her husband’s death was a heart attack due to a left coronary atheroma – a fatty deposit inside the artery.

Speaking to The Sunday Times , the actress, 49, has now opened up about putting their children first following his death.

She said: “(We’re) a really good, optimistic little unit. I love having two daughters, and I love how funny and tenacious they are.

“Grief is grief, isn’t it..I’ve just got to navigate it, parenting, earning a living, doing life, helping the girls thrive as best I can. That’s the focus.”

After Roger died, Anna starred in The Constituent at the Old Vic and missed not being able to discuss the role with him.

She admitted: “I am a mum to my two girls, that comes first.

“I really like being busy and doing lots of things at the same time, though.

“I then burn out and cry and my boyfriend says I should do less.”

Anna and Roger, who had a 22-year age gap, split in 2020 after being married for 16 years and sharing two teenage daughters Maggie and Nancy.

They remained on good terms and had been planning to spend Christmas together before Michell’s death.

The actress was happy to “spill the tea” on her relationship, opening up on how they met.

She met Richard while on the series Code 404 and the star explained that she was the one to make the first move.

The TV star explained that he wasn’t one of the cameramen filming her show, they’d just met on set.

She said: “We’d just come out of Covid and I was on a production and I thought ‘he looks nice.’

“And so I made it clear to him I thought he looked nice and then we went on a date.”

Richard has worked on projects including Paddington In Peru, Wonka, and Better Man.
