Intense Standoff: Drug Dealer Fights Back with Crowbar as Cops Attempt Arrest

THIS is the moment two cops wrestle with a crowbar-wielding drug dealer who tries to escape into a bin before he strikes an officer in the face.

The shocking incident occurred after officers had stopped a man speeding on a moped in Brixton, South , before he fled the scene.

In CCTV footage shared by the , the man can be seen running down Somerleyton Road with an plainclothes officer in close pursuit.

He then turns into a bin yard where he attempts to climb into an communal bin before one officer grabs his foot and drags him to the ground.

The man can be seen writhing desperately to escape as an officer is struck in the face with a crowbar before his colleague arrives and they wrestle the man on the floor.

The crowbar is eventually thrown beyond the man’s reach as they put the man in cuffs and he is led to an unmarked police car.

Cops said the man had discarded a bag on the road during the pursuit which was later found to contain Class A .

He was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply and grievous bodily harm and has since been bailed pending further enquiries.

The arrest marked a Met Police operation in Lambeth and Southwark aiming to crack down on gang violence.

These areas were targeted “due to a rise in gang-related tensions and a number of serious, high-profile incidents in recent months”.

The force said that over the course of a week they made 297 arrests and seized 38 dangerous weapons.

Detective Chief Superintendent Emma Bond, who led the week-long operation, said: “This activity is part of an ongoing campaign to drive down violence and make our neighbourhoods safer.

“That sustained approach is already delivering results, with knife down by 18 per cent across Lambeth and Southwark.

“But we know that despite this success, gangs continue to do harm to London’s communities. In recent weeks and months, more families have had to endure the unimaginable pain of losing a loved one to senseless violence.

“We do not want to see another life lost which is why we’re so determined to keep taking robust action.

“Those driving serious violence across London should be under no illusion. We are targeting them relentlessly, and we will use every power available to take weapons, drugs and dangerous offenders off our streets.”
