Mokwa flood: 7 more bodies recovered as death toll rises

Niger State Government on Tuesday announced the recovery of seven more bodies from the recent flood disaster in Mokwa area, bringing the total number of casualties to 160.

This was revealed in a statement issued in Minna by the Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Usman.

According to Usman, four of the bodies were recovered on Monday and one body was recovered in the early hours of Tuesday, while two more bodies were recovered on Tuesday in the ongoing search efforts.

He noted that the recovered seven bodies had since been buried in the state.

“This development brings the total number of confirmed fatalities from the flood to 160,”; the statement reads in part.

The Niger State Government pleaded with residents to be prayerful and stay calm in this period of collective grief.

It called on everybody to desist from spreading misleading information that may cause more sorrow, pain, panic and unnecessary commotion within communities.

The State Government pledged to continue to provide the necessary support to affected families.

It also promised to intensify relief and rescue efforts as the state continue to mourn the lives lost.
