Investigators made contact with the Ukrainian national on August 7 – over a year after a friend had reported her missing – and verified her identity.

Kovrizhnykh, also known as Angel Volnaya, was last heard from on July 5, 2025, as she toured through the county in her Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Soon after, her car and camper trailer were found unattended in Potrero, a rural part of the county.

The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) stated in its file that along with coordinates in Potrero that same day.

“The letter essentially provided instruction to give her personal assets to her mother,” it said.

A day before the eerie letter, Kovrizhnykh uploaded a video to Facebook under her alias Angel Volnaya.

It shows her reading from the Bible with the caption: “Two commandments. No one escape. Who kill will die forever.”

She says: “There is no way to escape. The punishment is coming.

“The rapture is coming. It is already on the earth. There is only a few years left… I’m a prophet.”

Kovrizhnykh posted another video that same day, showing her at a church with ominous “supplies” including water, oil, batteries, a walkie-talkie, and a gas mask.

Sergeant Jacob Klepach told KNSD at the time of her disappearance: “We believe she was just kind of touring the country and she left her vehicle in Potrero and never came back to her vehicle.

“We don’t really have any belief one way or another at this point if there is foul play involved or if she just strictly voluntarily left.”

It is still unclear why Kovrizhnykh crossed into Mexico, and why she has not been in contact with loved ones in the past year.

The sheriff’s office has now notified the Embassy of Ukraine about her whereabouts.
