It comes just one week after ICE agent Jonathan Ross shot and killed mum-of-three Renee Good in Minneapolis after she allegedly “weaponized” her vehicle near an immigration operation.
Explaining Wednesday evening’s shooting, the DHS said on X that federal law enforcement officers were “conducting a targeted traffic stop in Minneapolis of an illegal alien from Venezuela”.
They said: “In an attempt to evade arrest, the subject fled the scene in his vehicle and crashed into a parked car.
“The law enforcement officer caught up to the subject on foot and attempted to apprehend him when the subject began to resist and violently assault the officer.”
Authorities added that “two subjects” then came out of a nearby apartment before allegedly attacking the officer “with a snow shovel and broom handle”.
They continued: “As the officer was being ambushed and attacked by the two individuals, the original subject got loose and began striking the officer with a shovel or broom stick.”
The latest shooting has plunged the city into further “chaos” – with protests taking place across Minneapolis in response to the latest shooting.
Shocking images showed cops using teargas to disperse demonstrators after crowds of locals started gathering together in the streets.
