WHEN it rains, it pours for Mikel Arteta, who has announced that another player will be sidelined for an extended period.

Reports emerged yesterday indicating that Leandro Trossard and William Saliba will miss tonight’s match against Club Brugge in Belgium.

Kai Havertz and Gabriel Magalhaes are also unavailable and are not anticipated to return until the New Year.

The same applies to Cristhian Mosquera, who has been confirmed to be sidelined for weeks rather than days.

The Gunners' manager stated: “Unfortunately, he’s going to be out for weeks. It’s much more than we anticipated, but the player was feeling it, so he’s going to be out for weeks.”

Mosquera was substituted just before halftime during Arsenal’s 2-0 victory last week.

Acquired from Valencia in the summer for £13 million as support for the preferred center-back duo of Saliba and Gabriel, the Spaniard has played more than expected due to the ongoing injury crisis.

He is now very much part of that crisis, meaning Jurrien Timber and Piero Hincapie will continue to fill in tonight.

A makeshift defense may have contributed to the Gunners earning only four points from their last nine available, reducing their lead to just two points.

Attention now shifts to tonight’s match, where they aim to secure six wins out of six in the group stage so far.

However, they will have to manage without SIX first-team players, a situation Arteta is all too familiar with.

Arsenal has now experienced 93 separate injury cases since the beginning of the 2024/25 season, with 26 occurring this season alone—second only to Leeds in the Premier League, who have recorded 28.

Arteta elaborated on the reasons behind this situation.

He mentioned: “We don’t have time to train. So training is lacking, but obviously the absence of players causes others to take on more load as a result. It creates a very dangerous cycle.

“Some players have played over 150 games in two seasons, leading to overload. When you keep asking them to perform repeatedly, at some point, they will break down.

“It’s something we are constantly monitoring. We’ve played many matches with numerous players missing, which adds stress and leads to more injuries, but we are addressing it.

“I’m very pleased with what we’re doing in terms of medical support and everything we are trying to implement, but sometimes we also need a bit of luck on our side.”
