MICHAEL VAN GERWEN has opened up on the “mess” of his divorce earlier this year.
The three-time world champion has endured a difficult few months away from the oche after taking a break from the sport this summer.

, 36, confirmed in May he had split from his wife of more than 10 years and mother of his two children, Daphne.
Following the announcement, the Dutchman revealed he would be spending some time away from darts to come to terms with his new circumstances.
Since then, Mighty Mike has spent time to do “fun things”, including attending the Tomorrowland festival and partying in .
Speaking to Dutch outlet AD , he said: “I’m just human, you know.
“At some point, you want to think about nice things again, not just be preoccupied with the mess you’re experiencing at that moment.
“I couldn’t write this script myself, so I’ll have to deal with it in a way I think is right.
“You could just sit around and grieve all day, but that’s pointless. So you do fun things, take time for yourself.”
Van Gerwen also spoke about his attempts to establish a new routine and work-life balance with his kids now being his priority.
He explained: “Is that working? Not quite yet. It takes time. I have all sorts of balls to juggle. I’m still in the middle of the .
“Not everything will be fine within a few days. You’re dealing with the final settlements, the aftermath. You have to do that carefully, without mistakes.”
While in Ibiza, Van Gerwen was seen enjoying a Martin Garrix concert at the famous beach club Ushuaia.
Some had claimed the world No3 had taken his eye off the “bull” in darts, after he shared snaps of his summer adventures to social media.
However, Van Gerwen dismissed such claims, explaining he was on holiday with his kids like any normal person.
“I still love darts and I’m not reluctant at all. But since having my children, I’ve always said that darts is no longer my number one priority.
“My children are my number one priority, and then everything else comes.
“But ultimately, it’s my livelihood, and if you’re good at darts, you can give more to the kids. It’s all interconnected; I’m very aware of that.”
He added: “I was just on holiday with my kids in Ibiza, you know. Yes, I did go out for a day, but doesn’t everyone do that?
“People emphasize that, but what others say about it doesn’t really matter to me.
“They should just experience what I went through… you have to get on with your life and find closure, even though that’s easier said than done.”
Van Gerwen returned to darts with a 6-5 win over compatriot Wessel Nijman in the last 32 on Friday at the World Series of Darts in Amsterdam.
