Former Nigeria head coach, Gernot Rohr, has opened up on why Bayern Munich star Michael Olise turned down the Super Eagles to represent France.

Olise was in England to a Nigerian father and a Franco-Algerian mother.

The 24-year-old was eligible to play for Nigeria, Algeria, France, or England before he ultimately decided to pledged his international future to France.

However, in an interview with Brila FM, Rohr revealed that the former Crystal Palace winger’s mind was already made up years ago to play for France.

“In 2019, I saw Michael Olise with my assistant Tunde Adelakun,” Rohr said.

“We tried to invite him, but he did not want to join us at the time.

“He was already playing well. As at when we saw him, that was six to seven years ago, we saw him so strong and unfortunately, he refused to play for Nigeria.”
