A grave MI5 alert regarding Chinese spies targeting Members of Parliament has led to calls for immediate restrictions on Beijing.

Yesterday, accusations were made concerning espionage against Westminster politicians.

Two women, who pose as recruiters, were identified as part of a “widespread and targeted” operation.

In a communication to MPs, peers, and staff, it was stated: “Their objective is to gather information and establish long-term relationships by utilizing professional networking platforms, recruitment agents, and consultants acting on their behalf.”

The Security Minister asserted that he would not tolerate the “covert and calculated” interference and revealed a set of minor measures to enhance security.

This latest warning follows the collapse of a case against two suspected Chinese spies after the government declined to classify it as a threat to national security.

It was demanded that they be placed alongside other entities in the highest threat category of the newly established register for foreign actors, and that their extensive embassy be vetoed.

A Shadow Cabinet Minister remarked: “After months of Labour ignoring the issue of China, I hope the Government has finally recognized the true nature of this threat.”

The allegations incited a strong reaction from Beijing, which labeled the British government’s claims as “pure fabrication.”

An embassy spokesperson stated: “We strongly condemn such despicable actions by the UK side and have lodged serious protests with them.”

A former chief of staff to the then Chancellor was among those targeted.

James Price received a LinkedIn message from Amanda Qiu last year, where she introduced herself as a head-hunter.

He told The Sun: “I then received a lengthy and uninteresting message about a battery company in China, which I perceived to be either spam or something more sinister, and I never engaged further.

“It is deeply concerning that the Chinese Communist Party has both the resources and intent to attempt to engage even former Special Advisers, let alone MPs and senior civil servants.

“I hope the Government is aware of the significant threat that the CCP poses and responds decisively.”
