For TikTok creator Jacqui (@ jacquinla2 ), it consisted of six and a half years of glass partitions, monitored phone calls, and being a “wife.”

Jacqui has been updating her 58,000 followers with regular posts about her relationship with her partner, LA, while he spent nearly 12 years in a US prison.

Now, the long wait is finally over.

After an early celebration with her family, Jacqui is packing her bags and relocating to Ohio to start a new life with LA outside of prison.

Despite the romantic milestones, Jacqui has addressed her followers who have openly expressed their dislike for her relationship.

“I know prison LA. I don’t know outside LA,” she confessed to her audience.

“As much as I know him from his time in prison, I’m uncertain about how he will behave once he’s out. So, I am waiting to see, just like you all are.”

Jacqui recognizes that LA, who has lived a life of “being in the streets” and behind bars, may be “somewhat institutionalized” and could feel overwhelmed by his newfound freedom.

However, she does not expect a fairytale; she anticipates that the journey will be challenging.

She has also come to terms with the fact that not everything will be perfect and that it will require significant effort.

To those who label her “crazy” for committing to a man with a criminal history, Jacqui argues that every relationship carries its risks.

She points out that people often enter relationships with seemingly wonderful partners, only to discover a completely different—and sometimes abusive—dynamic years later.

“It’s just the risk we take when we choose to be with someone,” she explains, acknowledging that her risks are heightened due to LA's past.

Instead of viewing his release as the conclusion of their journey, she sees it as the end of their old dynamic and the beginning of something entirely new.

Jacqui emphasizes that she is not trying to promote prison relationships or suggest that hers is superior to anyone else’s.

She is simply a woman who spent over half a decade waiting for her best friend and is now ready to see if their bond can withstand the challenges of real life.
