LAZIO manager Maurizio Sarri has surprisingly confessed that he is unfamiliar with new signing Petar Ratkov.

However, the new addition might not be thrilled to learn that his signing has caught the manager off guard.
When questioned about Ratkov during a press conference, the 65-year-old responded: “I don’t know this player.
“The other staff members at this club probably know him better than I do. To be honest, I don’t have much to say about him.
“I’m not familiar with him, and that’s understandable, as I don’t have time to follow the Austrian league.
“It’s no surprise that clubs employ seven or eight scouts to monitor various leagues; at Chelsea, there were 30.”
While Sarri had little to say regarding Ratkov, the striker expressed admiration for the Italian coach in his first interview.
He stated: “I haven’t had a conversation with him yet, but he’s an excellent coach, which is crucial for a young player.
“I spoke with Sergej [former star Milinkovic-Savic], and he informed me that everything here is fantastic—the city, the club. He mentioned that Lazio is one of the best teams in Italy.
“My goals are to maintain fitness, score many goals, assist Lazio in improving, and finish in the top six.
“I also came here to develop as a player and as a person. For a young striker aiming to grow and score, this is one of the best leagues in the world.”
Ratkov netted 12 goals in 29 appearances for Salzburg last season.
Since joining the club in 2023, he has played a total of 99 games, scoring 22 goals overall.
Lazio currently sits ninth in the Serie A standings after a mixed start to the season under Sarri.
The Argentine returned to the club this summer for a second stint following the dismissal of Marco Baroni.
