More than 2,000 representatives from over 10,000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) across the 14 local government areas of Zamfara State have switched allegiance to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defectors were welcomed by Aminu Sani Jaji, a member of the House of Representatives for the Birnin Magaji/Kaura Namoda Federal Constituency.
During a gathering at his residence in Gusau on Sunday, Jaji expressed his happiness with the large-scale defection, viewing it as a strong indication that the APC would reclaim the state and win all elective positions in the 2027 elections.
“I am pleased that the defectors have shown their willingness to join and support our esteemed party, the APC, through my Jajiyya movement. This demonstrates their approval of our ideology focused on state development through political engagement,” he stated.
The lawmaker assured the new members of fair treatment within the party, emphasizing that they would not regret their choice to join the APC.
“I am confident that whoever becomes the APC candidate for any position will undoubtedly succeed, whether in the presidential and gubernatorial elections or other political offices in Zamfara by 2027. There is now a single political party in the state,” he added.
Jaji further emphasized the renewed solidarity within the Zamfara APC, pointing out that the divisions that contributed to the party's defeat in 2019 have been addressed.
“There is complete unity and mutual respect among the leaders and members of our great party. We understand the factors that led to our 2019 failure, and we have resolved those issues to prevent a recurrence,” he remarked.
He also referred to Zamfara as an APC stronghold, recalling the state's significant contribution to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 presidential election.
