Published on May 20, 2025 at 03:16 PM

A Ghanaian man, Dauda Seidu Bayigo, has announced an attempt to set a new world record for longest swimming marathon by individual.

Announcing the development in a TikTok post, Bayigo said the record-breaking attempt to swim from Ghana to the United States will commence on June 6.

According to the distance calculator, DAILY POST reports that the flight distance from Ghana to USA is 6,220.89 mi (10,011.55 km).

If Bayigo’s attempt is successful, he would surpass an existing record held by Nejib who swam 76 hours 30 minutes from September 15 to 18, 2018.

Nejib swam 120 kilometres (75 miles) across Tunisia Gulf of Gabes in Mediterranean Sea between Sfax on mainland and the island of Djerba.
