Man in his 50s dies after power boat crashed into houseboat at water sports centre

A MAN in his 50s has died after a power boat crashed into a houseboat at a water sports centre.

Cops scrambled to the scene after reports of a collision during an event on Oulton Broad, Suffolk, just after 7pm yesterday.

It is understood a powerboat ploughed into a stationary houseboat.

Suffolk Police has now confirmed the powerboat driver, a man in his 50s, died at the scene.

The Coastguard and East of England Ambulance Service also attended, and police were liaising closely with the Marine Accident Investigation Bureau (MAIB).

It is understood a race was taking place at the water sports venue at 6pm yesterday, although it has not been confirmed whether this is linked to the crash.

The Lowestoft & Oulton Broad Motor Boat Club had promised a “display of high-speed action on the water, featuring skilled drivers” during theninth round of their championships.

In a statement on social media, the Circuit Powerboat Association(CPA) saidno other competitor was involved.
