FORMER Euros final starter Kalvin Phillips is on the brink of another loan move to Sheffield United as his turbulent time at Man City continues.

A dream £42million move to the then Premier League Champions in 2022 has become a nightmare for the defensive midfielder, who is currently finalising a fourth loan exit from the Etihad amid a desperate search for minutes.

The out-of-favour 30 year-old was snubbed from ‘s preseason touring party, and is close to completing a return to Bramall Lane on the back of an initial loan stint with the Blades this February.

His recent spell in the Steel City was unable to stop the rot – Phillips could only muster three appearances after being plagued by a knee injury, and was sent off in his final appearance.

But the ‘Yorkshire Pirlo’ remains in favour among ‘s top brass, and has full confidence in the enduring class of the former Three Lions mainstay.

The Blades’ gaffer publicly stated a desire to lure the former Leeds man back across the Pennines for the 2026/27 season three months ago.

“We’ve brought a really good pro in. He was unlucky with his injury and he’s not played as much as he wanted to play.”

Phillips earned 31 caps for , starting the Euro 2020 final and winning a fan vote for England men’s player of the year in 2020-21, before securing a six-year deal at City in 2022.

A megabucks move to the Etihad has seen Phillips win a glittering array of silverware – alongside banking over £25 million in wages alone.

However, a sky-high salary has been a stark contrast with his paltry playing time.

Phillip’s last appearance for the Prem titans came way back in 2023, and despite having two years left on a lucrative contract his future prospects at the Manchester outfit are in free-fall.

A return to Yorkshire offers Phillips a coveted chance to finally build some continuity, having also been shipped off to Ipswich and during his stormy stint with City.

Although failing physical fitness prevented Phillips from snapping his cold streak last season, Sheffield United will hope to unlock his undoubted ability and reignite Phillip’s international pedigree in the .
