A MAN has been arrested after a female patient was allegedly sexually assaulted in a hospital.

The 63-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault as cops launched an urgent probe.

The patient was allegedly attacked just before 4am on Friday, and a yellow police van was spotted parked outside the hospital for most of the day.

Merseyside Police confirmed a 63-year-old man from was arrested and remains in their custody for questioning.

The force said they take reports of sexual offences extremely seriously and that the woman is being supported by special officers.

A spokesperson for the Merseyside and West Trust said: “We are co-operating fully with Merseyside Police, and as such it would not be appropriate for us to comment at this stage.”
