ANGRY Married At First Sight fans have inundated Ofcom with complaints.
In the past week, the broadcasting regulator has received 81 complaints regarding the E4 reality show, the majority of which were related to groom Steven Springett.
MAFS fans have expressed their concerns about Steven Springett’s behavior.
Steven, 34, and Nelly, 30, tied the knot, but their relationship has been marked by some heated arguments.
On the program, Steven referred to Nelly as a “f***ing idiot” during a heated argument at home.
The 34-year-old father also faced criticism from co-stars after leaving Nelly at home with a broken rib while he got drunk and boasted about his sexual escapades.
When the couples arrived at a dinner party, Steven stormed off set and insulted fellow stars like Julia-Ruth and Maeve Mathieson, calling them a “bunch of c***s.”
The following day, Nelly attempted to discuss the incident with him again.
In response, Steven exclaimed: “I get bored of saying the same thing over and over again.”
Nelly replied: “You keep saying that,” to which Steven retorted: “Well, don’t provoke me then!”
Startled, she responded: “Don’t raise your voice at me,” before Steven replied: “F**king idiot.”
During the subsequent commitment ceremony, Nelly disclosed what he had called her, and Steven attempted to retract his statement.
However, show expert Mel Schilling called him out on it, and he eventually admitted feeling overwhelmed that week due to his stepfather being hospitalized.
After Steven broke down in tears and vowed to return to his former self, the couple decided to continue in the experiment.
Following the ceremony, Nelly shared: “This last commitment ceremony was a challenging one for us.
“Although I hated seeing Steven cry, it was the first time I witnessed a more emotional side of him.
“Seeing that different side of him wasn’t easy – especially after his behavior that no one should ever have to endure in a relationship.
“But he assured me that this was not the real him. The real Steven is the one I met on our wedding day, the one I grew close to during our honeymoon, and I didn’t want to throw away something that could be truly magical.
“So I took a significant risk, decided to give him the benefit of the doubt, and fight for our marriage.
“Seeing that vulnerable side gave me hope that maybe, just maybe, we could rebuild and find our way back to where we were just a few weeks ago.
“I chose to stay and commit to our marriage. To everyone following my journey:
“I promised to be authentic and transparent throughout this experiment with you all. This is me sharing my true feelings in that moment, remaining honest to the process.
“Thank you all for your support and for allowing me to be so open with you xxx.”
Fans flocked to the comments section to share their thoughts, with one writing: “I’m not convinced about this guy. I think he has a very dark side to his personality that’s quite concerning.”
Another added: “You’re amazing, but he didn’t deserve a second chance.”
While a third commented: “Any man who spoke to me the way he spoke to you would be deleted and blocked.
“Your dignity and respect are not worth staying on a TV show for – hold your head high, recognize your self-worth, and leave now.
“Any man who treats you like that once will do it again, and that is his true character – read all these comments and see the truth.”
