MADELEINE McCann prime suspect Christian Brueckner will be freed from jail next month, it was confirmed yesterday.
The convicted German paedo , 48, must be let out by September 17 when his seven-year sentence for rape expires.
Lead prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters said there was no sign of an appeal or arrest warrant and warned: “You have to expect him to commit further crimes.”
Brueckner, locked up in Germany for raping a US woman , 72, has refused to rule out leaving his country so could avoid possible justice for Madeleine if he flees to a non-extradition nation.
Madeleine, three, of Rothley, Leics, vanished on a family holiday in Praia da Luz, Portugal , in 2007.
Police are still investigating and Mr Wolters said they have been building a case against Brueckner.
He said: “He is not just our number one suspect, he’s our only suspect.
“We have evidence against him but in our view it’s not strong enough to make a guilty verdict likely.”
