A MAJOR UK motorway has been shut in both directions and is expected to be closed for hours.
The M6 has come to a standstill after the “police-led incident”, near Wigan.
All vehicles are being held between junctions 26 at the M58 Orrell Interchange and 23 at the East Lancs Road.
Details about this are unknown at this moment in time.
National Highways have taken to X to warn: “Current info from scene indicates the M6 will remain closed for a number of hours.”
But the chaos on the M6 continues as drivers are also facing delays further south, near Warrington.
This is following a crash near junction 21 at Woolston.
Traffic is tailing back past junction 21A for the M62 Croft Interchange.
