A gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Ambassador Oguntoyinbo has called on both the National and State Houses of Assembly to assign specific roles for traditional rulers in the country.

Oguntoyinbo noted that this is necessary because traditional rulers are the closest to their subjects.

The PDP chieftain said this while reacting to the emergence of Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja as the Chairman of Oyo State Traditional Council.

DAILY POST reports that Ladoja was on Thursday declared as the Chairman of Oyo State Traditional Council by governor Seyi Makinde of the state. https://dailypost.ng/2026/01/15/alaafin-absent-as-makinde-inaugurates-council-of-obas-in-oyo-photos/

Oguntoyinbo in his reaction, urged the National and State Houses of Assembly to amend the constitution and assign specific roles for the traditional rulers.

In a statement made available to DAILY POST, Oguntoyinbo noted that traditional rulers will be in the best position to tackle insecurity in their domains.

He said, “I call on the National and State Assemblies to assign constitutional roles to the traditional rulers.

“Traditional rulers are the closest to the grassroots, have roles to play especially in checkmating the current insecurity pervading the country.

“The traditional rulers are in position to fish out bandits and other criminals in their localities, and giving them constitutional role will make them to function legally”.
