Lagos LG Polls: Vote counting begins in Yaba

Published on July 12, 2025 at 02:55 PM

As the 2025 Local Government elections draw to a close across Lagos State, vote counting has commenced at Polling Unit 024, Ward B, in the Makoko area of Yaba.

However, while some units moved into the collation phase, others continued to await voter participation. At Polling Unit 002 in the same ward, officials of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, LASIEC, remained on standby due to the continued absence of voters.

Across much of Yaba, the exercise proceeded peacefully, though marred by a noticeable low turnout. At Ward F, Unit 012 along Iwaya Road, voting was still in progress as of the time of filing this report, with officials expressing concern over the underwhelming participation.

Similar conditions were reported in other parts of Iwaya, where LASIEC personnel described the voting process as slow and marked by limited public engagement.

Meanwhile, in Ward G at St. Timothy College, polling units 001 through 005 recorded a more structured process, with voting taking place in a calm and orderly fashion.

Observers monitoring the election acknowledged the peaceful nature of the exercise but raised concerns about the apparent voter apathy.

Many warned that the low level of engagement could affect both the legitimacy and inclusiveness of the final outcome.

LASIEC officials have continued to urge eligible voters to take advantage of the remaining time, with polls scheduled to close at 3:00 p.m.
