The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has said that criminal elements are destroying the fences protecting the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway.
Umahi made this statement on Thursday during a media brief in Abuja.
According to him, the flooding of the road is also due to underground channels that were blocked by refuse.
“We thank the people and government of Lagos State for their assistance and the Commissioner of Police. They have massively deployed within the coastal road to check vandalization.
“As we speak, people are destroying the fences protecting the Lagos to Calabar Road and stealing the green band wires meant to beautify it.
“The green barbed wire we put to expose the beauty of the coastal road in a number of sections are being cut and taken by people,” he said.
