The Kogi State Government has expressed its determination to unearth available facts towards ensuring justice for the slain photojournalist, Mr Ayo Aiyepeku.

The Kogi Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, in Lokoja, in a statement, explained that Governor Ahmed Ododo has directed security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation to unveil the true incident surrounding Ayo’s gruesome murder.

According to the governor, justice may not bring the dead back to life, but he assured that it will console the family of the deceased that their son did not die in vain, with a view to averting future occurrences, saying that the people remain a top priority of his administration.

He added that the government would leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of justice, ensuring that the perpetrators of the heinous act do not go unpunished but face the full wrath of the law.

The statement explained that the investigation into the mysterious circumstances surrounding the murder and the subsequent death of the prime suspect is ongoing.

“The governor urges the general public to remain security-conscious and support ongoing investigations by volunteering credible information to law enforcement agencies,” the statement stated.

A correctional service officer, Adebayo Pelumi, allegedly lured and killed Ayo, an indigene of Ekinrin Adde in Ijumu Local Government Area of the state.

Following days of intense search, concern, and unanswered questions, the decomposing body of the 26-year-old photojournalist, who was allegedly murdered, has been found on the outskirts of Lokoja.

The intense search for the body of Ayo followed after the suspect reportedly fled the scene with the victim’s body, prompting a police manhunt to locate both him and Ayo’s remains.

The body of the prime suspect was later found in a hotel in Lokoja, with preliminary investigations suggesting suicide.

As investigations continue, security operatives are handling the recovery of the corpse, which has already been deposited at the Specialist Hospital in Lokoja.
