Governor Ahmed Ododo of Kogi State has revealed the recovery of a substantial cache of arms and ammunition from criminal hideouts, following a decisive joint security operation conducted in the state.

Ododo made this announcement during a press conference on Tuesday at the Government House in Lokoja.

He explained that the operation was the culmination of a week-long, sustained, intelligence-driven surveillance conducted by security agencies in close collaboration with the state government.

According to him, security operatives carried out a coordinated overnight operation that unveiled a significant criminal enclave where a considerable stockpile of weapons had been hidden. He mentioned that no arrests occurred during the raid.

The governor characterized the recovery as a significant and strategic milestone in the battle against crime.

He emphasized that the recovered items included 24 AK-47 rifles, 23 pump-action rifles, one Tavor rifle, one FN rifle, four Barrett pistols, four Browning rifles, and 42 magazines. Additional items comprised 520 rounds of GPMG 7.62 ammunition, along with large quantities of AK-47 ammunition, cartridges for pump-action and Barrett pistols, handcuffs, 13 holsters, tear gas cartridges, and components for submachine guns.

He attributed the ongoing criminal activities to Kogi’s strategic geography, its borders with ten states, and a vital corridor featuring numerous entry and exit routes.

“Kogi is on high alert. The DSS, police, military, navy, and all other security agencies are working tirelessly, day and night. We will never yield to criminals, and we will never negotiate with them,” he stated.
