SIR Keir Starmer’s allies are warning ministers they could be forced to quit the Government if they back Andy Burnham in a future Labour leadership battle.

It comes as openly positions himself as a future challenger to , confirming he would seek the top job if he wins next week’s make-or-break and a leadership contest is triggered.
The Prime Minister is already under pressure after , with almost 100 MPs demanding he set out a timetable for his departure.
But Sir Keir is refusing to budge, with his spokesman insisting he will not “walk away” from No10 and would fight any challenge “to win it”.
One Downing Street source told the Financial Times: “No10 has been making it known that if there is a contest you will be expected to resign from the Government if you want to support someone else.”
Another official close to the PM added: “That is the thinking.”
However, Downing Street yesterday rejected reports Sir Keir had personally told ministers they would have to quit, with his spokesman saying: “
