Katsina United Football Club has refuted claims of violence and the death of a player during their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) match against Barau FC at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina.

The club, in a statement released on Sunday by its Media Director, Nasir Gide, labeled the circulating reports as false, misleading, and a calculated attempt to damage the reputation of the team and football in Katsina State.

According to Gide, the publication suggested that supporters of the club stormed the pitch, creating chaos, and that a player was killed during the match.

“These allegations are completely unfounded and a deliberate attempt to harm the club’s reputation and the integrity of football in the state. At no point during the game did any supporter breach the main pitch,” he stated.

While acknowledging that the match was intense due to some controversial officiating decisions, the media director asserted that security personnel maintained control of the situation throughout the event.

“These claims are utterly false and do not accurately reflect what occurred. The game was conducted in an orderly and secure manner,” Gide continued.

He expressed disappointment that a “respected platform” would publish such serious accusations without verification, cautioning that such misinformation could damage the club’s reputation and hinder the development of football in Katsina and Nigeria as a whole.

Gide also accused Barau FC of promoting the false reports, noting that the League Management Company (LMC) had been informed to investigate the issue and take appropriate measures.

“Katsina United Football Club is dedicated to professionalism, discipline, and fair play both on and off the field,” he emphasized.

The club urged the online platform to retract the report and issue a public apology, warning that failure to comply could result in legal action.

“We urge the publishers of this misleading report to withdraw the story immediately; otherwise, we will have no option but to pursue legal remedies through the appropriate channels,” the statement concluded.
