The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in last Saturday's governorship election in Anambra, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, has rejected the victory of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo.
During a press briefing in Awka, Ukachukwu stated that the election was marred by intimidation and violence against his supporters, many of whom suffered injuries and lost their homes and vehicles.
He mentioned that he has begun discussions with his supporters and will also consult with party stakeholders and agents throughout the state before making a definitive statement regarding his next steps.
He expressed: “We appreciate our team members; they are all brave individuals, each victorious in their own right, including those who faced intimidation, had their cars and homes destroyed, and even my deputy, who was forced to flee for her safety due to threats. All these individuals are winners.”
“I gathered you here to inform you that we are in communication with our agents and compiling information about the events of that day, and we will speak when the time is appropriate.”
“Some of my agents were kidnapped by our opponents and detained until after the election; these matters are not for discussion at this moment. We are still gathering information from our party agents, and I need to consult my party to determine our next steps.”
Ukachukwu noted that his supporter was abducted and held until after the election, and funds intended for paying party agents were mischaracterized as money for vote buying.
“They arrested my supporter who was carrying money to pay our agents, alleging it was for vote buying. Can I possibly buy votes against an incumbent governor who controls the state's treasury? The election results will reveal who engaged in vote buying. If I had bought votes, it would have been evident in the number of votes I received.”
“Investigate; all those arrested were APC members. Look into the case of the young woman in Anambra East whose house was burned down simply because she supported our party and campaigned for our success.”
“To have received 99,000 legitimate votes is truly remarkable. Those votes reflect the belief that Anambra must progress. The number of votes I garnered is significant enough to demonstrate that the APC can no longer be overlooked in Anambra.”
“Those 99,000 individuals are the ones who voted for us; they are among those I will consult regarding our next actions. They believe that Anambra deserves better. Our agents, who we were unable to compensate due to the kidnapping of my supporter, still stood firm and worked for us.”
“Today, they cannot claim that the APC is nonexistent in Anambra, as 99,000 is not an insignificant number.”
