Kano High Court sentences young man to death by hanging for murder

Published on June 13, 2025 at 06:56 PM

The Kano State High Court No. 23, presided over by Justice Halima Nasir, has sentenced a young man, Anas Umar, to death by hanging for the murder of one Ashiru in Tudunwada Local Government Area.

Anas Umar was accused of luring Ashiru to a farm known as “Sambisa”; in Tudunwada, where he fatally struck him with a club.

Prosecuting counsel, Barrister Ibrahim Arif Garba, presented compelling evidence and witnesses that convinced the court of the defendant’s guilt.

The court dismissed the evidence presented by the defense counsel, Barrister Shehu Sani, as insufficient.

Justice Halima Nasir ultimately delivered a guilty verdict and handed down the death sentence by hanging to Anas Umar.
