The Kano State Government has sanctioned over ₦9.8 billion for the implementation of various road, flood control, and renovation projects throughout the state.
This approval was granted during the 33rd meeting of the State Executive Council, led by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
While addressing journalists about the meeting's outcomes, the State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Waiya, stated that these projects are part of the government’s initiative to enhance infrastructure and improve the living standards of residents.
Among the approved initiatives, Waiya mentioned the installation of solar-powered streetlights in Kwankwasiyya City, which will cost ₦339,644,836.05, and the construction of hydraulic structures along the Kwanar Durba–Fammar–Konau–Kure Road in Kibiya Local Government Area (Phase II) at a cost of ₦207,174,230.95.
He also revealed that ₦277,452,289.48 has been allocated for renovation and construction activities at the Audu Bako Secretariat (Phase II), while ₦393,334,675.71 has been designated for general renovation tasks at the State Ministry of Works.
In addition, the commissioner announced that the council approved ₦219,951,530.82 for the construction of a dwarf fence and entrance gate at a plot adjacent to Gidan Fiat, Naibawa, Zaria Road, and ₦2,633,028,973.31 for the construction of the Dambatta–Gwarabjawa Road in Dambatta Local Government Area.
According to him, ₦810,824,310.98 was also sanctioned for the installation of road studs on selected roads within Kano Metropolis, while ₦388,517,336.52 was allocated for flood control works at Baban Gwari Roundabout along Katsina Road.
“Furthermore, ₦185,430,198.66 has been approved for maintenance activities along Karaye–Rogo Road (Damagari Phase II), and ₦2,471,436,590.12 for the supply and installation of 4-way intersection traffic lights across major roads in Kano State,” Waiya stated.
Waiya further disclosed that the total approvals by the council exceeded ₦19 billion, encompassing projects across various sectors including Works and Infrastructure, Education, Health, Water Resources, and Renewable Energy.
“This government is committed to transparency, accountability, and enhancing the quality of life for the citizens of Kano State,” the commissioner emphasized.
